What Is Rhinoplasty (Nose Aesthetics)?

Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic and functional surgical procedure aimed at bringing the shape, size and overall proportions of the nose into harmony with the rest of the face. If there is a functional problem (septal deviation, turbinate hypertrophy, etc.), functional correction can be planned together with the aesthetic procedure in the same session. The patient's expectations are discussed through a digital photo simulation, which helps establish a shared goal between surgeon and patient.

How Does the Operation Take Place?

The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia and takes 2-3 hours depending on the technique. In suitable cases, Prof. Dr. Ömer Karakoç prefers piezo (ultrasonic) surgical techniques to reduce bruising and swelling; this technique allows more controlled intervention on the bone structure. An open or closed technique is chosen according to the nose's existing structure and the scope of the correction required.

The Recovery Process

• 1-2 days: Observation in hospital or at home; mild swelling and bruising are expected.
• 7-10 days: The protective cast/splint is removed and most of the bruising subsides.
• 2-3 weeks: Return to daily life and desk work becomes possible.
• 6-12 months: Tissue softening is complete and the final shape of the nose becomes clear.
